Project Overview
CLFA Design took over the project from a third party and undertook a value engineering exercise to minimise excavation into rock, delivering a more efficient and cost-effective solution.
Key outputs
Following appointment, we undertook a comprehensive technical review of the inherited design, reassessing site levels and earthworks strategy to identify opportunities for optimisation. This included revising drainage levels to reduce excavation into rock, and coordinating updates across the design where required. The outcome was a fully rationalised and buildable solution, supported by updated drawings and technical documentation suitable for approval and construction.
Value added
By re-engineering the original proposal, we significantly reduced abnormal excavation and disposal costs while lowering the construction risk associated with rock removal. The revised strategy improved overall project viability, protected development margins, and enhanced programme certainty by delivering a coordinated, commercially efficient design aligned with the client’s delivery objectives.
